Player Ratings as Wolves comeback to draw 2-2 at Brentford

Goals from Adam Armstrong and substitute Tolu Arokodare made sure Wolves head back to the West Midlands with a point, on a night where it could have easily been all three. After a disastrous first 40 minutes for Wolves, where they found themselves 2-0 down, new signing Armstrong latched onto a pass from Bellegarde, after a superb run from the midfielder, and produced a brilliant touch which matched the finish as the striker got Wolves back into the game just before half-time.

A highly spirited second half followed as Armstrong was unlucky not to score his and Wolves’ second as his low shot found the post. Rob Edwards made brilliant use of his bench once again as Angel Gomes impressed in midfield and Tolu Arokodare became a nuisance up front, scoring a superb header and hitting the bar a minute later.

With 21 points still up for grabs and Wolves sat twelve points behind 17th, could the greatest of great escapes still be on?

Jose Sa: 6/10

Sa did well under the high ball whilst being under immense pressure from the opposition. His distribution was very good tonight and he couldn’t do much for the two goals.

Jackson Tchatchoua: 6/10

Couldn’t stop the cross for the first goal and didn’t track Ouattara’s run for the second, but once again, a completely different Tchatchoua in the second-half, pressed high and delivered some dangerous crosses into the box. If only he could have started the game how he finished it.

Yerson Mosquera: 6.5/10

Mosquera was half-asleep in that first-half, but in the second 45 he became Wolves’ most dominant defender. He was constantly looking for an outlet going forward, as well as being disciplined defensively. Definitely could have done better for Brentford’s second goal, but a good performance nonetheless.

Santiago Bueno: 6/10

Not at fault for either of Brentford’s goals and was calm and disciplined throughout the game. The Uruguayan international read the game well and kept the Brentford attack quiet in the second-half.

Ladislav Krejci: 5.5/10

An off-game from Krejci tonight, but he did improve as the game went on. Delivered some teasing balls to Tolu near the end of the game, pushing Wolves up the pitch.

Hugo Bueno: 6/10

A severe lack of concentration to gift Kayode his first Brentford goal. But alongside the rest of the defence he improved in the second-half, looking incredibly dangerous and lively on the left flank.

Andre: 7/10

Mr Reliable. Great link-up play with the defence as well as the midfield, constantly looking to advance Wolves up the pitch. The Brazilian would throw himself through a brick wall to win the ball back and another impressive performance from Andre.

Joao Gomes: 7.5/10

Just enjoy him whilst we can. Another superb performance from Joao Gomes in midfield. It is so impressive how he constantly wins the ball back and turns defence into attack so quickly. His work rate is up there with the best in the Premier League and he deserves to go right to the top.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde: 7/10

Drove Wolves up the pitch and delivered a classy pass into Armstrong to assist Wolves’ first. In the second-half he continued to frustrate the opposition, constantly causing problems in the middle of the park.

Mateus Mane: 5/10

The 14th start in a row for the teenager and it really showed. Mane didn’t look himself in the first half and was substituted for Angel Gomes at half-time. We didn’t see any of the spark he brings to this Wolves side, and he was constantly put under pressure from the Brentford defence. Hopefully he returns to form and bounces back after the international break.

Adam Armstrong: 7/10

A spectacular touch and finish from our number nine, to net his first for Wolves. His movement across the frontline was fantastic again as he looked to get Wolves back in the game. Armstrong was unlucky not to get his and Wolves’ second as he glanced a shot onto the post.

Substitutes:

Angel Gomes: 7.5/10

It was pretty clear at half-time that Wolves needed more control of the game. Angel Gomes came on and gave Wolves the control they were lacking as we completely dominated the midfield in the second-half. After seeing glimpses of a former England international, we finally got to see what Angel can produce in what was his best game in a Wolves shirt.

Tolu Arokodare: 7/10

Really unlucky not to win Wolves all three points. Came on and became a nightmare for the Brentford defence as Tolu glanced a header past Kelleher four minutes after his introduction, before he hit the bar not even a minute later. After some underwhelming performances recently, it was good to see Tolu back to his best.

Rodrigo Gomes: N/A

Injected some much-needed energy into the Wolves attack late on and sprinted up the pitch to win a corner in the dying seconds.
