Wolves’ chance of survival looks slim and as far as most fans are concerned, it might be a case of too much too late.
Last time out in the Premier League saw Wolves travel to the Etihad Stadium to play Manchester City, which resulted in an unfortunate 2-0 loss for The Old Gold.
Although Wolves have managed to find better form recently, they do still sit bottom of the Premier League table with only eight points.A victory over Bournemouth, would provide a lot more confidence and momentum going forward.
Looking at the visitors, Bournemouth managed to oversee a 3-2 victory over last year’s Premier League champions Liverpool most recently, with goals from Evanilson, Álex Jiménez and Amine Adli with the winning goal.
In fact, looking at The Cherries’ recent form, they’re unbeaten in four games with two draws and two wins. The visitors for this weekend, currently sit in 13th position in terms of the league table, with 30 points from 23 games. A win away from home for Bournemouth could push them further up the table and away from the relegation zone.
Head to head history
There’s a mixed bag of results when looking at the last five encounters between the two teams, with neither team being a dominant side.
Bournemouth did win the reverse fixture earlier this season, courtesy of a Marcus Tavenier goal, with Toti Gomes being sent off for Wolves.
In February 2025, Wolves did get the win away at Bournemouth with Matheus Cunha grabbing the only goal of the game. Again, another red card in that fixture, which was for Bournemouth’s Zabarnyi.
It was a hat-trick of penalties last time at Molineux for Bournemouth though. An afternoon to forget as the Cherries beat Wolves 4-2, Justin Kluivert scoring three penalties, with Kerkez grabbing their other.
Recently departed Antoine Semenyo scored the only goal of the game back in April 2024 with Bournemouth winning 1-0 at Molineux. Milos Kerkez saw red in that game too.
But back in October 2023, Wolves came from behind to beat Bournemouth 2-1. Matheus Cunha grabbed an equaliser to cancel out Dominic Solanke’s opener before Sasa Kalajdzic’s late winner. Yet again, another red card, this time for Bournemouth’s Lewis Cook.
There have been five red cards in 11 Premier League meetings between Bournemouth and Wolves (four of those in the last five), one every 2.2 games. Of all fixtures to have been played more than 10 times, only Aston Villa vs Portsmouth averages a sending off more often (one every 2 games, 7 in 14).
Team news
Wolves should have Jean-Ricner Bellegarde back in the frame, having trained with the squad in the last week after he suffered a hamstring injury back in December last year. We could expect a little cameo from the Haiti international.
Despite the uncertainty of transfer news surrounding Jørgen Strand Larsen, Rob Edwards has confirmed that it’s still likely that the striker will be in his match day squad.
Edwards also confirmed that Ladislav Krejci is a doubt due to the flu. The head coach is still without Toti Gomes, who isn’t expected back until early February due to a hamstring injury.
Bournemouth are likely to be without Marcus Tavernier due to a hamstring injury, as well as Ben Doak, who has been injured since November and isn’t expected to return until late February.
David Brooks picked up a recent ankle injury meaning that he won’t be making the travel to Molineux, as well as Will Dennis with the latter not expected back until late March.
Andoni Iraola will also be without Julio Soler, Matai Akinmboni, Justin Kluivert and Tyler Adams all due to injuries.
