Wolves are in advanced talks with Burnley over the signing of Nathan Collins according to John Percy (The Telegraph).
Wolves have said to agreed a fee £20.5m fee for the 21-year-old defender who impressed last season in the Premier League, despite Burnley suffering relegation.
Although the deal isn’t done yet, it’s understood that a deal is very close for the Republic of Ireland international.
We understand that Collins does have a relegation release clause in his contract, believed to be between £20-25m.
Burnley find themselves in financial trouble since being relegated from the Premier League and they need to generate cash through player sales but even with that in mind, £20.5m feels like a bargain in the current climate for such a player.
Collins, who joined Burnley from Stoke last season for a reported £12m has gained interest from a whole host of Premier League clubs but it appears that Wolves have beaten the likes of Aston Villa and Leeds.
The 6ft4 centre back matches the profile of the type of player that Bruno Lage wants and is maybe an early indication that Wolves are switching to a back four, with Collins playing in that system at Burnley.
Collins is dominant in the air, defensively strong but he’s also comfortable in bringing the ball out from the back – in a similar ilk to Max Kilman.
The news is certainly welcome among Wolves fans who’ve been crying out for signings and have been left frustrated at the current pace of transfer dealings.
