Valencia ‘prepared to accept’ Wolves’ bid for Goncalo Guedes

Wolves look to be closing in on their second summer signing as Valencia are ‘prepared to accept’ Wolves’ bid for forward Goncalo Guedes, according to various reports – including Fabrizio Romano.

The bid is said to be around £27 million and Valencia are willing to accept this offer with the club suffering from financial problems. Valencia need to pay off  €54 million of short-term debt which is due to be repaid during 2022-23 so raising funds through the sale of players is a must for the Spanish club.

Guedes was also completely left out of the squad for Valencia’s 2-1 win over Atalanta yesterday.

Wolves have been long-term admirers of the 25-year-old and it was first reported back in April that Wolves were interested in Guedes.

Negotiations between the club and the player regarding personal terms are ongoing.

Guedes scored 11 goals and registered six assists for Valencia last season and was played predominantly as a centre forward in a 4-4-2 formation, partnering up with Maxi Gomes – who could also leave Valencia this summer.

Guedes is incredibly versatile and can play comfortably across the front three but he had his best season of his career in terms of goalscoring last season, playing as a centre forward. Wolves are known to prefer players who can play in a number of roles, too.

It’s not known whether Guedes is being brought in to play that role or whether he could be a replacement for Morgan Gibbs White with Nottingham Forest still pushing hard to sign him.

Whether Wolves can get the deal over the line remains to be seen but I would certainly welcome the signing of Guedes, who would be ready-made and proven signing who in my opinion, improves the starting 11.
