Rob Edwards’ third game in charge resulted in yet another defeat against Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest. After a very dull first 45 minutes, populated primarily by a lengthy VAR decision, another sloppy lapse in concentration put Wolves’ hopes of avoiding defeat to bed in the second half. The elusive lowest points record held by Derby looks increasingly likely to be beaten by this Wolves side who, despite their continual efforts, just aren’t good enough to compete in the Premier League. Sam Johnstone – 4.5/10
Johnstone appeared to be having a rather comfortable game up until the goal. Making a few crucial clearances from corners and saving Elliot Andreson’s free kick, his positioning for the goal was certainly questionable. Although he cannot be solely blamed, this knocks his rating down from what otherwise would have been a 7/10.
Jackson Tchatchoua – 2/10
I feel like this is primarily a confidence issue for Tchatchoua, but he just cannot seem to take the ball forward, constantly feeding the ball back to Mosquera whenever it arrives at his feet. Aside from a few passable crosses, Tchatchoua appeared to be unable to pass the ball forward, and looked passive defensively.
Yerson Mosquera – 4/10
As expected, Mosquera spent most of his time fouling when defending. At times he seemed out of place positionally, and was certainly the worst of the back 3.
Emmanuel Agbadou – 7/10
It seems that Agbadou is the only player who can play a long ball in this team at the moment. Some brilliant passes were on display, and defensively, he looked solid, aside from a few minor mistakes. He seems to be getting on the right track for returning to his form from last season.
Toti Gomes – 5.5/10
Toti didn’t do much wrong. That’s all I have to say.
David Moller Wolfe – 6.5/10
A decent performance from the Norwegian, looking solid defensively, especially in the aerial aspect. Similarly, when going forward, he looked dangerous at times, but he was often too slow in offering an option that Bellegarde could pass to. There’s room for improvement, but the performance was promising and definitely something that can be built on within the next few games amidst Bueno’s absence.
Joao Gomes – 5.5/10
Very one dimensional, as per usual. The lack of creativity within midfield is concerning. The work rate will always be there, but unfortunately, it’s not enough within this current side.
Andre – 5/10
We’ve seen from his corners that he can play a decent pass, but he never appears to do it in open play? His movement of the ball was simply too slow, much like Joao Gomes.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 8/10
By far the best player on the pitch, Bellegarde seemed to be the only player who could take the ball forward and strike fear into the opposition. With that being said, his end product was left with something to be desired, as there were a few occasions where he released the ball too late. He should be the first name on the team sheet from now on.
Jhon Arias – 5/10
Although not as clear cut as last week, Arias missed what was definitely a game-changing opportunity. It seems that he is simply not quick enough for the Premier League. He did well to retain the ball at times, but offered very little when dribbling the ball forwards.
Jorgen Strand Larsen – 4/10
We can’t expect him to do anything without service, but his effort seems to be dropping. He, along with most of the team, looked much better when partnered with Tolu.
Substitutes:
Hwang Hee-Chan – 6/10
Surprisingly, Hwang appeared to remember how to play football again, and showcased some great link-up play with Wolfe, along with a few passable crosses into the box.
Tolu Arokodare – 7/10
Tolu changed the game. He offered much more as a target man than Strand Larsen did in just 10 minutes. He deserves to start the next game.
Mateus Mane – 6/10
The youngster offered a bright spark, getting unlucky with some of his dangerous passes into the box. I think he needs to start a game rather than being subbed on with 10 minutes to go, in order to really make an impression.
Ki-Jana Hoever – N/A
Hoever rarely saw the ball in his 10 minute spell, but probably did more than Tchatchoua in those 10 minutes.
Marshall Munetsi – N/A
I’m not sure exactly what injury Munetsi picked up in his 5-minute cameo, but I know that some fans will be hoping to see him absent for the next few weeks.
