Player ratings as Wolves lose 2-0 at Sunderland

And here we are with another Saturday afternoon ruined by Wolves. Nice one lads. Burnley at home is now an absolute must win. If we lose that I dread to think what happens going forward and truly worry for the rest of this season. Written by Rich Foster.

Player Ratings

Sam Johnstone – 5

Megged for the first goal, could he have done better? Second goal was not his fault. Today’s loss isn’t really on him.

Matt Doherty – 4

Lost his marker for the first goal, Father Time spares no man and I think we’re seeing Matt Doherty’s final season at top flight level. A real shame as he’s been a fantastic servant but, the legs just aren’t there anymore.

Santi Bueno – 5

Not his finest game, looked weak at times. Should’ve been more alert for the first goal. Drove forward with the ball well, he tried to make something happen.

Ladislav Krejci – 4

From Maldini regen to Kaspars Gorkšs over the space of one international break. Terrible own goal to concede, gotta feel for the lad.

Hugo Bueno – 5

Says everything when he was probably our best player going forward, only one who seemed to want to make something happen, crosses were generally decent, shame nobody was on the end of them.

Jhon Arias – 4

Gave the ball away constantly. Corners just awful. Can’t beat his first man, not just today but the entire season. I just don’t see it with him I’m afraid. I really hope I’m wrong but feels like a poor signing and he will be back in South America next year.

Joao Gomes – 3

Probably his worst game in a Wolves shirt. That chance – he simply has to score. On a plate for him from Munesti. Passes all over the place, shots even worse. He clearly cares too much and I think the poor run is affecting him. Very emotional player – feels a bit Lemina like at the moment.

Andre – 6

Defensively sound and work ethic never questioned. He is the absolute least of our current issues.

Rodrigo Gomes – 5

He tried but constantly beaten in the air and physically outmuscled by Mukiele. Also, why is he on long throws???? I like the lad but I worry this league is too physically demanding for him.

Marshall Munetsi – 6

Probably our best player. Wasted a chance early on when he could’ve put JSL through on goal and sliced it wide instead and he looks positionally all over the place at times (is that him or Vitor’s tactics?) – but once again, one of the only players who ever looked like scoring.

A great save to stop him equalising from Roefs in the Sunderland goal and he chested down a great chance to Joao Gomes which he sliced wide. Could never fault his effort, he tries & tries and never gives up.

Jorgen Strand Larsen – 4

Despite long ball after long ball in his direction, did he win a single header? He clearly isn’t fully fit at all. Is it just that or did the Newcastle bids get in his head? Something not right with him at all. Looks a mile off the player he was last year.

Substitutes:

Tolu Arokodare – 5

Won more headers than Strand Larsen did all game after just 30 seconds on the pitch (one). If the tactics were to whip cross after cross into the box for 90 minutes then surely he should have been bought on way before he was? Gotta question Vitor there.

Jackson Tchatchoua – 4

Less said about that “shot” the better. Was the tactic for him to play as a forward solely on the basis that he’s the fastest player we have? Sunday League stuff from Vitor if true.

Ki-Jana Hoever – 4

Forgot he was still here. Did he touch the ball? Totally anonymous.

Fer Lopez – 5

There’s a player in there, of that I am certain. I just feel like he will probably shine back in Spain more than in England, unfortunately. This league doesn’t feel suited to his playstyle – or maybe it’s just the lack of real quality around him.

Where do we go from here? As it stands it’s looking like the only valid answer is “Wrexham away in the Championship next season”. A truly miserable time to be a Wolves fan at the moment.
