Player ratings as Wolves beat Everton 2-0 to advance in the Carabao Cup

Wolves edged past Everton to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. Wolves matched the visitors in the game’s early stages before Marshall Munetsi found himself back post to get his first goal of the season and open the scoreline. A nervy second half was bookended by a terrific first Wolves goal from Tolu Arokodare to seal the club’s place in the draw for the next round.

Player Ratings

Sam Johnstone: 7/10

The experienced keeper had no shortage of action, as the visitors provided multiple challenging shots on goal. An outstanding save in the first half set the tone for him to collect his first clean sheet of the season.

Hugo Bueno: 7/10

The Spaniard once again looked lively for the hosts, driving multiple attacks down the left hand side. Defensively, Bueno largely kept Everton outlets N’Diaye and Dibling quiet throughout their time on the pitch.

Matt Doherty: 7/10

The Irish international was a steady part of the Wolves backline. Alongside defensive duties, he linked up with Jhon Arias to drive the home team forwards.

Ladislav Krejci: 8.5/10

Wolves’ new defender has quickly established himself as a fantastic option at the back. The Czech international played the part of a leader, dominating the Everton attacking play for the majority of the game. Composed and assured with the ball at his feet, Krejci wins the Man of the Match title.

Santiago Bueno: 7/10

Much like the others at the back, Santi Bueno imposed a confident figure in defence. Providing height and physicality for the centre halves, Bueno battled exceptionally against the likes of Beto and Barry.

Jean Ricner Bellegarde: 5.5/10

Off the back of a call-up for Haiti on international duty, Bellegarde was unable to recapture that positivity. Despite contributing to numerous good attacks for Wolves, the midfielder struggled to align with the quality of his teammates in midfield, misplacing a few key passes that may have led to clear-cut chances.

Marshall Munetsi: 7.5/10

Munetsi notched his first goal of the season after an impressive display. A clever run allowed him to get on the end of a rebound and score the opener.

Andre: 8/10

Back in the starting 11, Andre shone as a key standout in the Wolves team. The Brazilian kept composed under pressure and seemed untouchable for the hosts. Narrowly missing out on man of the match, Andre looked back to his very best.

Hwang Hee-Chan: 4/10

The Korean forward unfortunately kept his run of unlucky form going in the Carabao Cup. While making some clever runs and challenging the keeper on more than one occasion, he wasn’t able to beat Jake O’Brien on the left hand side for the majority of the game.

Jhon Arias: 7/10

Arias has struggled to make an impact in some games for Wolves so far, but looked sharp and agile in this one. Creating the chance for the opener, Arias continued to put Everton under pressure and helped to capitalise on their mistakes.

Jørgen Strand Larsen: 6/10

The Norwegian star was rewarded with a bumper contract last week and showed glimpses of promise up top. Working hard when Wolves were under pressure, Strand Larsen assisted in bullying the away back line when called upon up top.

Substitutes

Joao Gomes: 6/10

Keen to impress off the bench, Gomes came on to help seal the win. The team gained stability upon his arrival in the middle of the park.

Tolu Arokodare: 7/10

The 6’6″ Striker scored a superb first goal for the club to confirm Wolves entry into the next round. Latching onto an excellent through ball, he delightfully chipped Travers to add a second.

Rodrigo Gomes: 6/10

Rodrigo played his part as he helped keep Everton at bay in the closing stages.

Toti Gomes: 5/10

The Wolves Captain didn’t make much of an impact as he came on late to create a back five.

Emmanuel Agbadou: N/A (Short time on the pitch)
