Two Good, Two Bad as Wolves share the points with Fulham

A 25th minute Mateus Mane goal was cancelled out by a Fulham penalty on the cusp of halftime.

The second half was an uninspiring, low-quality 45 minutes as Wolves failed to take three points in the final home match of the season.

Good – a goal and a point

The bar really is low for the good but any game that doesn’t result in a defeat is somewhat of a bonus. The goal itself is a brilliant one however, Rodrigo Gomes does well to break through on the right wing before zipping a low ball into the box.

Hwang remains composed inside the penalty area and lays a pass off to Mane who sends a rocket past Leno. It’s a pity the goal of the season shortlist has already been released, this goal would’ve featured on it.

Good – Raul Jimenez homecoming

Like many fans today, I was most excited to see the return of a Molineux great, Raul Jimenez. The reception for the Mexican did not disappoint either, even if his cameo from the bench was pretty lacklustre.

Raul deserved a better send off than the one he got in 2023 and when the final whistle went, he got it.

A standing ovation as he was subbed on and countless loud renditions of ‘Si Señor’ were met with heartfelt applause from the former wolf after the final whistle.

Bad – failure to capitalise on poor Fulham performance

Despite finding gaps and creating more in the opening 20 minutes, Fulham were below average today. This was a game where the visitors were there for the taking in the second half and Wolves should have done more.

The final 20 minutes were especially excruciating to watch as the majority of attacking opportunities ended in a sloppy, over-hit pass or a poor touch. Tolu failed to make any kind of positive impact and the game fizzled out when it could and should have been a better ending.

Bad – Going out with a whimper

I’m not saying this was the worst performance – there were positives to take. The problem lies in the fact this was the final home match of a torrid season and there was a real opportunity to give the fans something to cheer about. The lack of intensity, quality and, most importantly, desire is why many fans left this match with a flat feeling.

Finishing this horrendous season with a win at home would not have changed the outcome of our season. It would have given a fanbase that has suffered for long periods this season, some comfort in a performance of pride in what will be the final Molineux match for many of the players.
