Player ratings after Wolves lose to Burnley 3-2 at Molineux

Another heart breaking afternoon at Molineux ended with Wolverhampton Wanderers beaten 3-2 by Burnley, another game decided in stoppage time that leaves Wolves searching for answers yet again. Burnley raced into a 2-0 lead through Zian Flemming’s brace before Jørgen Strand Larsen scored from the spot, and a stoppage-time header from Marshall Munetsi levelled things up. Wolves were on top for much of the second half, only for Lyle Foster to steal it for the visitors in the 95th minute. The contest summed up Wolves’ season so far: attacking flashes and spirit undermined by costly defensive lapses at the death. Here are our Wolves player ratings. Written by Luke Fletcher.

Player Ratings

Sam Johnstone: 4/10

Not a great afternoon for the Wolves stopper: seemed to move in slow motion for the first goal and came out too early without committing for the third. He did produce a few decent saves to keep his side in the game.

Ki-Jana Hoever: 4/10

Strange decision from Vítor Pereira to start Hoever over Jackson Tchatchoua in the right back position, and it was a gamble that didn’t really pay off. He wasn’t terrible defensively, but his final ball in the attacking third was poor and didn’t threaten Burnley at all. Pereira eventually saw sense and replaced him with Tchatchoua.

Santiago Bueno: 4/10

A mixed afternoon for Santiago, who was well out-muscled by Flemming for Burnley’s second goal, but did redeem himself somewhat by winning the penalty that sparked Wolves’ comeback. Had a chance to rescue a point in the dying seconds, but was denied by Dúbravka.

Ladislav Krejčí: 5/10

It was a patchy performance from Krejci, who nearly gifted Burnley a goal after a first-half mix-up with Johnstone. However, he recovered well and provided the assist for Marshall Munetsi’s equalising header.

Hugo Bueno: 5/10

Hugo Bueno offered a decent outlet on the left flank, linking up effectively with Rodrigo Gomes and delivering some teasing crosses into the box. He was solid if unspectacular overall.

André: 5/10

The Brazilian struggled to impose himself and was too often bypassed as Burnley controlled large spells of the game. He failed to dominate as expected and was replaced by João Gomes in the second half.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde: 6.5/10

Bellegarde started slowly but grew into the game and became Wolves’ main creative spark. His ball retention and direct play helped open up Burnley’s defence, and he played a significant role in the move leading to Munetsi’s goal. However, his late turnover led to Burnley’s stoppage-time winner.

Marshall Munetsi: 5/10

Munetsi’s header brought Wolves level, but aside from that moment, it wasn’t his best display. He lacked composure in key situations and was outwitted by Kyle Walker during a promising counterattack. One of the hardest workers on the pitch once again.

Rodrigo Gomes: 6/10

Lively and upbeat throughout, Rodrigo Gomes caused Burnley problems with his pace and dribbling. He came close to scoring early on and battled well against a more physical opponent, even if his end product was generally poor.

Jhon Arias: 4.5/10

Arias continues to search for his first Wolves goal and was unfortunate not to get it when his free-kick struck the crossbar in the second half. His work rate was there, but his influence in open play was limited.

Jørgen Strand Larsen: 5/10

Captaining the side, Strand Larsen struggled to make an impact in open play but kept his cool to convert from the penalty spot. Constantly looks frustrated. Either still isn’t fit or is just out of form, would be lucky to keep his place in the starting eleven.

Substitutes

João Gomes: 5/10

Brought some much-needed energy and aggression to midfield after coming on, but couldn’t quite turn the tide. Showed his usual intensity and commitment.

Hwang Hee-chan: 3/10

Introduced on the left wing but made minimal impact. Offered little threat going forward and failed to influence the game in any meaningful way.

Jackson Tchatchoua: 3/10

Tchatchoua looked hesitant after replacing Hoever. He was too conservative with the ball and, unfortunately, played Lyle Foster onside for Burnley’s stoppage-time winner.

David Møller Wolfe: N/A

Came on too late to make a notable contribution.

Tolu Arokodare: N/A

He was given limited minutes and didn’t have enough time to affect the game.

In the end, it was another bitterly disappointing result for Wolves, a performance that mixed determination with the same defensive frailties that continue to haunt Vítor Pereira’s side. Despite showing fight to recover from two goals down, Wolves once again let a valuable point slip away in stoppage time. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde provided a rare spark in midfield, but too many others failed to step up when it mattered most. With results like this becoming a worrying pattern, the pressure on Pereira is mounting fast, and he’ll know his side must find both resilience and consistency if they’re to get away from the bottom of the Premier League table and save his job.
